Name: Sheltering Arms - Operation StoryBook
Date: April 16, 2018 - April 20, 2018
Website: Sheltering Arms
Event Description:
Every year, Sheltering Arms hosts Operation Storybook, a week-long Read-A-Thon, encouraging volunteers and groups to get children excited about reading. Some bring their favorite childhood books to share and some act out exciting stories. Help us encourage early literacy skills. Sign up to volunteer today!
This is a very special year for Sheltering Arms as it marks 130 year history of this extraordinary organization.  Because of this, Sheltering Arms would like to personally invite you to celebrate with their students by being a part of Operation Storybook this year.
This celebration takes place the week April 16-20th where they honor the importance of literacy by inviting community members to read their favorite storybook or participate in fun book-related activities in a Sheltering Arms classroom.  This read-a-thon brings more than 600 individuals to Sheltering Arms over the course of a week.
Because 90% of children’s brain development occurs before they’re three years old, developing a love of books and reading among young children reaps huge rewards.  Research shows that books and reading are much less common in low-income families than in more affluent households.  Sheltering Arms’ Operation StoryBook closes that gap for more than 2,400 low-income children.  So, come make a difference in the life of a child.
Sheltering Arms looks forward to partnering with you.  We hope you'll join them in making this powerful investment of time in our children’s future.  To schedule a time to participate in Operation Storybook, please contact:
